Review: Wake by Lisa McMann

WakeI am now halfway through Wake by Lisa McMann. This is the first of the Wake trilogy. The second is Fade which released last year February. The last book is coming out next month! I guess I’ll have to get those two books… but they are only available in hardcover! I hate it when they release paperback version, then only hardcover! It mess up my collection in my librairy! >_<

So back to the book, Janie is a high school girl with the ability to go into someone dream if they are close to her (physically). Before reading the book, I thought she was visiting (from her free will) other people dreams when she was sleeping, but it’s not the case. She can be awake, but if someone is sleeping near her, she is force to see the dream. When the dream is not too intense she still can control her real body, but her eyes only see the dream. When it’s a nightmare, her real body is paralyzed. So dangerous!

So she has this ability since she was 8 and never told anyone. Her life is very hard because of this. In addition to her luck, she live alone with her mom which is an alcoholic and don’t seems to care for her. They are poor so Janie have to work part time like crazy.

The book has to be exciting with some romance! So of course she’ll meet a hot guy and it seems like he dreams about kissing her quite often…

This is a very interesting story. The way it’s written is special with details on the dates and times. The typo is different when the main character is in a dream or not. The dream is as much important then the situation her body is at when she is in a dream.

I’m guessing that she’ll learn more about her ability somehow and will help people in their dreams even though for now she seems to only be watching unable to move or talk. She’ll tell her secret to her hot guy or her best friend… she can’t keep it to herself! Or it would be boring, hehehe. I just wonder how helping someone in a dream will help them in real life?

From the publisher

Not all dreams are sweet.

For seventeen-year-old Janie, getting sucked into other people’s dreams is getting old. Especially the falling dreams, the naked-but-nobody-notices dreams, and the sex-crazed dreams. Janie’s seen enough fantasy booty to last her a lifetime.

She can’t tell anybody about what she does — they’d never believe her, or worse, they’d think she’s a freak. So Janie lives on the fringe, cursed with an ability she doesn’t want and can’t control.

Then she falls into a gruesome nightmare, one that chills her to the bone. For the first time, Janie is more than a witness to someone else’s twisted psyche. She is a participant….
