Tithe : A Modern Faerie Tale

Sixteen-year-old Kaye is a modern nomad. Fierce and independent, she travels from city to city with her mother’s rock band until an ominous attack forces Kaye back to her childhood home. There, amid the industrial, blue-collar New Jersey backdrop, Kaye soon finds herself an unwilling pawn in an ancient power struggle between two rival faerie kingdoms — a struggle that could very well mean her death.
Few days ago, I started reading “Tithe“, the first of “A Modern Faerie Tale” trilogy by Holly Black, one of the modern leading authors in young adult fantasy fiction. I’m about half way through the book and it’s very interesting. I like the modern drama in this book. Kaye is only 16, she dropped of school, she smoke and drink, her mom is broken, her friend live in a trailer, she wants the guys to want her… We can even smell the modern pollution of the city. Being a manga fan, I smiled when Corny made some reference to it.
Everything in Kaye was pretty “normal” until she was forced to go back to her childhood city. There she remembered that she used to see faeries when she was a kid and nobody believed her. She stopped seeing them when she moved. She also met Robein, an handsome faerie and helped him when he was hurt. She regretted it when she learned what he did to her old faerie friend, but something about him make her draw to him. Well girls prefer bad guy. Hehe. She’d also learned about her real existence and the faerie world.
I didn’t much about the faeries yet, but some of them seems so nasty ans enjoy tormenting the others. I’m still not sure where the story is bringing me, but I can wait to read what will happen to Kaye.
