Last Saturday, I watched My Scary Girl (Dalkom Salbeolhan Yeon-in) at Fantasia Festival.

Fantasia description: “College lecturer Dae-woo may be a pretty smart guy, but in the romance department, he’s helpless. He hides his fear of the opposite gender, and timidity in general, behind a thin façade of cynicism and superiority, listing off the reasons that he can’t be bothered with women. But love comes for everyone, and Dae-woo’s developing a serious crush on Mina, who lives in the same building as he does. Literally shoved into asking her out on a date, Dae-woo is stunned when she accepts, and soon finds himself tumbling head over heels into love for the first time in his life. Their future together looks bright – so bright that Dae-woo is blinded to all the clues that something’s not quite on the level with Mina. Her claims of intellectual and artistic knowledge don’t seem to hold up to scrutiny, and she shows up to meet Dae-woo covered in mud, for some odd reason. Then there’s the ex-boyfriend, whom Dae-woo sees as a rival, who seems to disappear from one day to the next. And what about the giant kimchi fridge in Mina’s living room – with no kimchi in it? Dae-woo’s going to have to wise up to Mina’s mysterious ways, before he ends up in that fridge himself!”

I extremely enjoy it. It was really funny and not predictable. Dae-woo is a smart guy, but he was really clueless with woman. We do see this scenario often… well most of the time, the guy is stupid and clueless… Hehe. Anyhow, I thought he was cuter than stupid.

So the first part of the stories is how he’ll be able to get a date and a girlfriend. Everything was so good, but one day he’ll find a naked man at his girlfriend, Mina. He didn’t see nothing and just left. She didn’t say anything as well, but after he left, she went to his place. She said she don’t want to explain her self, but she want him to understand that it was her ex boyfriend and she’ll have to deal with him for a while. Dae-woo didn’t want to hear anything. Back to her place, her ex boyfriend looked really pissed and trow a beer bottle on the wall just in front of her face.

Later we see Dae-woo telling Mina that he forgive her and they make up. He said he’ll wait until she is ready, etc. But she said that her ex boyfriend left. Dae-woo was really happy. Back to her place, Mina looked really happy as well. The we saw her starting to wash the blood on her floor and wall! Then we saw the dead body of her ex falling from the closet! It seems like she killed him after that beer bottle. I’d say that it’s self defense… Go! Killing the bad boys using violence on women!

Mina’s roommate came back and asked her to do something with the corpse of the ex boyfriend, because it smell and it was hidden in her room. So Mina went to buy a kim-chi fridge. She even asked the vendor to get inside of the fridge to make sure it will fit. Back to her place, she put the corpse in it… she had to cut a finger, because it couldn’t close.

Later they had a little fight after meeting each other friends. Dae-woo started to be suspicious of her. Is she really in art? Is she really leaving to study in Italy? She say she read a lot, but she doesn’t know much about literature. He seems to be upset when she talked about the science of astrology and blood type (because it’s a little stupid and not scientifict at all).

When came back home, the boyfriend of her roommate was there and she found out that her roommate told everything about her to her boyfriend. She told him that Mina got big amount of heritage from an old man she just married. It seems like Mina killed him. As the boyfriend was looking for some kimchi, he saw the big kimchi’s fridge… Mina ran to it to stop him from looking… but he still saw the corpse of Mina’s ex boyfriend in there (the one she killed earlier). It seems like she forgot about him until just now… Mina and the roommate’s boyfriend went to the mountain and dig a big hole to put the corpse in it. He was really helpful… well he expected a little amount for it of course.

Back to her place, Dae-woo was in front of her door. He was really surprise to see her with someone else boyfriend and with dirty clothes. He wanted to talk to make up for the little fight they have. She didn’t want to talk since she was still upset and very tired. Someone with the help of the too weird roommate he been able to enter the apartment. The roommate was making some stew and looked too happy. Or maybe she was drunk? Anyhow, when her stew was almost done, she said that the only thing that is missing is Kim-chi. She also asked why does they have a big Kim-chi fridge when there is no Kim-chi in the apartment? Maybe i was to hide something big? The other two, Mina and the boyfriend, started to be very nervous… Mina tried to stop her, but the boyfriend end up punching her. Then they noticed that Dae-woo escaped! The boyfriend took a knife and said that he have to kill him or they are finished (they’ll be suspect as murder…). Mina tried to stop him saying that Dae-woo might have thought it was only some joke since the roommate looked drunk, etc. As she was trying to stop him, he felt on the kim-chi’s frig with the knife on his neck… As he was about to die, he tried to kill Mina, who protected herself… by killing him. The we see Dae-woo’s back with some kim-chi… He couldn’t enter. Mina’s end up trowing the kim-chi and Dae-woo left all upset… The two girls then went to the mountain. The roommate who was always so noisy was really quiet. It seems like she was really scared to be kill as well.

In the meantime, Dae-woo was in a trip for a conference and couldn’t forget about Mina so he came back. So when Mina was back from the mountain, Dae-woo was still there and they somehow make up and end up in the bed… In the morning they were both very happy. Mina left to do something and Dae-woo was making the breakfast. As he was walking in the apartment, some of the wallpaper was falling… and he saw some blood were hidden with the new wallpaper! Then he remembered what the rommate said… He was really nervous… but the fridge was empty! He smiled… but then he found the finger! Then he checked in her things and he found her ID card and her real name was Min-ja. He then hire an private detective to check on her past.

Later, Mina’s boss (or something like that) came in and took her stuff. She have to move to Italy now. He don’t know that Dae-woo know, but he just thought that she was in Korea for too long.

Dae-woo learned from the detective that Mina was married often and killed all her husband to get their money. When she called him because she needed to talk, he was trembling… hehe. In the restaurant, she started to be all nostalgic, because it was in the same place than their second date, etc. Dae-woo told her to go straight to the point and Mina said she’ll leave soon for Italy. Then Dae-woo give her the finger and asked her who she was… She said she was a normal girl trying to have a good time with her boyfriend… then she left. Dae-woo went back to her apartment, but it was empty.

Later he found her in a hotel after following her roommate. They had almost a normal conversation. When he was leaving. She asked him why he didn’t give her to the police. He said how can he do that to the woman he loved… Then she asked him to go with her to Italy. He couldn’t and just left in the elevator. They were both crying. in the elevator, Dae-woo was crying saying “Why did she kill so many? If it was only one, I could have forgive her!”

Two years later, they meet in coincidence somewhere (Singapore?). They talked normally. They were both on a trip and stopped there to transfer. They both say “let’s meet again next time”. Dae-woo said, next time, he might have someone he’ll want to grow old with next to him. Mina said if it’s the case, she’ll kill her. Then she kiss him and left.
